My summer expectations…
Immediately after I graduate with an B.A. in Visual and Performing Arts, I am talking a bus to NYC. And by immediately I mean like 4 hours later. I never was a “must get to NY” theatre kid, but this is an amazing opportunity. I will be stage managing a new theatre group, in a beautiful amphitheatre (which also freaks me out because a) I burn easily b) its a lot more production management/company management than I am use to c) I have never worked in an amphitheatre).
It is my first post-grad job, and I am excited to live in the city for a little over a month. That being said, I am very much a country girl (Mainer to the core). I am use to driving, and woods, and no traffic, and not a lot of people. Going to school by Boston has prepared me a little, and I can adapt, but it will be interesting to see my adjustment to city livin’.
And my adjustment to commuting on the subway - a 45 minute commute! Knowing my time management/anxiety I’m sure I will leave like 2 hours early, which will make for very early mornings. I guess in NY everyone commutes, but it is crazy to me. I can handle the travel, but 45 minutes in Maine will get me through like 10 towns. Wow, is NY big!! But again, hopefully I will adjust.
I am very excited for my future and my career. I am a little sad though that I am the epitome of a poor college graduate. I will be eating rice meals for a month, and will have no money to take in anything in New York (though white rice + water for a month + stress hopefully will = weight loss!!). Unless I make some nice friends who give me comp tickets, or I go without food for a month, this is most likely what I will be doing in my free time.
Ok, most likely not but…wouldn’t we all like to be billionaires to really live the NYC life. Maybe I’ve just watched too much Sex and the City. Anyway, I have no doubt (ok maybe a little, but it’s healthy) that by the time I have to leave NY we will have had an amazing show, and I will be a successful post-grad stage manager.
Then I can retire to Maine for the rest of the summer, to anxiously await news of all my internship/job applications (and throw one hell of a yard sale to make some $$). But it is cuter to put this image of a baby in a lobster costume…

I love musical theatre the most and am terrified of ever having to SM a dance show
My name is Caroline… I’m about to complete my first year at University, studying BFA stage management. My dream is to call The Lion King on broadway. I want to SM opera as well :)
